What is the kind of text art found in art classes?
Q. Basically my Art class here at my College is going to be requiring us to do a text art based artwork with pens. My instructor called it like this pronounced: My-ca-graphy Does anyone know what the true name is? I want to get a head start and better familiarize myself with it.

A. "Calligraphy" is the most popular word art but there are many. Just for your info. if you don't know degrees (as in 45 degree angle or 180 degree angle) take an hour and learn them. Its so easy I've taught my grand kids degrees on a wall clock. (i.e. 12 is 0* start. 3 is 90*, 6 is 180*, etc.) You have to know degrees on angles to learn calligraphy. There are tools (lined paper, angled pens) you need for this art. The biggest thing I want to stress to you is unlike writing, you can not go fast...never. Remember you are learning a form of art. Practicing does not increase your speed, it only perfects the craft. Calligraphy is done all over the world by different cultures. We have computers that write in calligraphy. Chinese… [cont.]

Help with my found art project?
Q. Hi to all 3-D designers. I have to make this art piece out of found objects and I'm having a really hard time with it, mostly because it can't be planned. I would have to gather everything first. Do you guys have any ideas of how to go about with this kind of project because I have no idea of where I'm going with it.
Asked by Kei - Sun Nov 8 18:32:38 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Start your design piece by thinking along the lines of what kind of objects you are LIKELY to find. Examples could be aluminum and bimetal cans, empty tissue paper, paper towel and wrapping paper rolls, cardboard boxes and other containers, newspapers and magazines, old rags, etc. If you know how to weld or solder, your found objects and materials could be any kind of scrapmetel, like hubcaps, engine parts, old appliances, toys, furniture, etc. Start "building" your project in your mind, as you imagine how you can assemble your parts. Be prepared to change your design as "parts become easier, or harder to locate. In other words, you don't really have to "gather everything first." It's not that hard to come up with a project idea. It… [cont.]

A. I guess in order to find the "greatest truth" in art, you first need to find the difference between art and science, and their different method of approaching to fulfill its goal. Find what science is incapable of, and connect that with art. For example, science deals with knowledge, and art deals with emotion. Science is capable of explaining firing neurons and how we are aware of our current environment, but science cannot touch our imaginations/emotions at the deepest level, just what area of brain is activated. I think art is like a communication between two souls, in a unique way, between the artist and the observer. Science says we are just chunk of meat, art is focused on our emotions, maybe emotion is within the realm of… [cont.]

A. you should start by collecting garbage/recycled materials. you could collect paper garbage, use it to make paper pulp and then form the paper pulp into a sculpture of some sort. here's a website for paper pulp making: you could also collect old bottle caps or soda cans, clean them, and build something out of them. a good way to talk about saving the environment is to bring in the idea of recycling by using this type of material.

Q. Can I copy his style? I hope you guys understand. Thanks :)

A. Guys, please leave the guy alone. You can't honestly say that you've seen someones work, love it, and then try to get it so it looks like that. Its how a -real- artist works. That's how people find their styles. To the asker: I wouldn't take the -whole- style. Maybe just take a few bits from it, and try to apply it to your own, personal style. ^^

A. Read the N. Y. Times version of how Elizabeth Gibson found a Rufino Tamayo painting in the trash. The path she took to discovering the treasure she had (also a Latin artist) has some interesting parallels to your question. I pasted the link but after viewing it more than once it asks you to log on. Try it.. if it asks for log in .. then go to Wikipedia's version and scroll down to the last external link on the page: "One Person s Trash Is Another Person s Lost Masterpiece" I checked and no other site has all the details. I hope this helps!

How can you find art similar to artists you already like?
Q. Is there a way on the net to find artists with the same type of style? I'm looking for art like Jamie Hewlett's but by other artists.

A. I was going to suggest some of the art websites, but I don't think any of them will have anything by Jamie Hewlett or similar on them. I'm not being snotty - just realistic. I would suggest starting with this link to where it all started for Jamie...2000AD comic. This, I know, has information on other artists who have worked for the magazine.

Q. Where can I find art schools or universities in Cupertino California? how far is San Fran. from Cupertino?
Asked by Grubby - Fri Jan 2 04:59:26 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. In Cupertino?? Cupertino is not very big.. I never heard anything great about it. (I'm from San Jose, just a few miles from there). San Fransisco is your best bet.. Try Academy of Arts or Art Institute.. Just North of Cupertino. Edit: It's very close. It's about 30 minutes (40 miles) drive from Cupertino. You may also consider San Jose (12 miles from Cupertino) or Santa Cruz (Also close by), or Berkeley. Great thing about Cupertino is that it's smack in the middle of the bay area. Lot's of great career opportunities and great selection of schools in the bay area..

Q. I am an painter, sculptor and I need to find an art dealer who can sell my art.
Asked by pistilosa - Thu Jun 21 21:12:49 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The best way to sell your art might be to have it displayed in a a gallery. Here's the way to do it: 1. Take digital photos of each peice of work and burn the collection of photos to a disk as your virtual portfolio. 2. Make a list of art gallerys that show work that is simalar to your own. 3. Send your virtual portfolio to the gallery manager in a black folder with your resume and artist's statement, this is the industry standard. 4. Wait. 5. While your waiting be sure to keep current copies of your digital portfolio, artist's statement and resume. 6. Get involved with the local art sence in your city. Go to gallery openings there's always free food at gallery openinngs and you can use the opportunity to get friendly with the gallery… [cont.]

Inspire me (found art project)?
Q. For art club, I have to make a sculpture out of found objects and I can't spend any money on it. It has to be at least 18 inches tall. It's due December 16th. What do you think I could use, and where could I find it? What could I make out of found objects? I honestly have no clue where I'm going with this yet. Any help is appreciated. P.S. I'm not asking for anyone to come up with the whole thing for me. I'm just asking for ideas. Thanks :)
Asked by Alissa - Tue Dec 1 21:10:24 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Pick a site to gather what you can. I once made a collograph using trash I found around the school ( bottle caps, cigarette butts, straws, soda cup etc.) Maybe a theme like kitchen stuff. Find what you can in a second-hand store, maybe a small appliance as a base ( ie an electric can opener ) object with utensils attached to form a 'kitchen witch' or such. Have fun! BTW Dec 16 is Beethoven's 297th birthday.

Q. I have to use found objects for it and i dont want it to be too big. something small. I have to use like random stuff and put it together to make something.
Asked by xblazinfire619 - Thu Sep 3 21:05:16 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The whole point of found object art is that you find it not, based on the advice from others, you go looking for a specific object. You might, for example, look at a pair of handlebars from a bicycle and think they look like a bull's horns and combined with a saddle I can make a bull's skull (do not do this Picasso has already been there). So, instead of starting off trying to make a specific object, go looking for items that remind you of other subjects the point of the exercise is to look at objects differently.
